Convento das Bernardas in Tavira has lived many lives. Once a convent, today a residential complex restored by Eduardo Souto de Moura, the building sits on the edge of the salt pans, within the extraordinary landscape of the Ria Formosa Natural Park.

In July 2026, we were commissioned by designer Eduardo Aires to photograph his apartment. We found ourselves drawn beyond the architecture itself. Rather than documenting the building, we sought to convey the atmosphere of this particular moment of the year, when magenta bougainvillea spills across the courtyards and frames every view. Their fleeting bloom softens the geometry and austerity of the architecture, bringing colour, shadow and movement into the space.
