In 2020, we were invited by Studio Eduardo Aires and ATA (Azores Tourism Association) to carry out a photographic project on the islands of São Miguel and São Jorge. More than capturing landscapes, we set out to uncover the specific stories that shape the identity of the Azores. We focused on cultural elements such as the capote e capelo, a traditional garment historically worn by women to conceal themselves in public, which today are preserved and celebrated in folkloric festivities. We also documented the close relationship with the sea and the beaches, as well as the importance of local products — from artisanal cheese production to the cultivation of pineapple and taro (inhame). Each island revealed its own distinct culture, rhythms, and ways of life.
