À Capucha! is a design practice by designers Maria Ruivo and Raquel Pais, exploring the connections between craft, material, and immaterial culture. The capucha itself is a traditional Portuguese cape made from woollen felt called burel, historically worn by shepherds and farmers. It simply rests on the head, allowing complete freedom of movement during rural work while sheltering its wearer from the cold and protecting them from rain. At À Capucha!, they don’t work by seasons; instead, each new outlook on the capucha emerges from subtle details and thoughtful reinterpretations.
With an ocean theme, the Ilha (meaning “island”) limited edition invites us to reflect on the planet and our relationship with it. Inspired by the beach, the sea, and the waste we cast into the water, this campaign delivers an urgent warning about plastic — now one of the greatest threats to the global ecosystem.
